Top 21 2 Player Nintendo Switch Games

The Switch is Nintendo’s unexpected smash hit that hasn’t lost steam since its 2017 release. This is largely due to the system’s myriad features that attract both casual game enthusiasts and their more hard-core counterparts.

Everything from the system’s handheld capabilities to its long list of third-party offerings have contributed to the system’s popularity but its optimization for two-player gameplay, via the detachable joycons, is the Switch’s true selling point. Few are more aware of this than game developers. Through their efforts, they have turned the Switch into a system with promise to the ideal platform for co-op gameplay.

1. Human Fall Flat

Human Fall Flat is perhaps the oddest game to gain a measure of commercial success. This is largely thanks to YouTubers and streamers who, for years, have showcased the game’s silly mechanics. Its switch port with the addition of online functionality has only made the cult classic game Human Fall Flat more popular.

The object of the game is to get you and your partner from one point of a map to another. To do that, players must navigate tricky maps filled with pitfalls, with characters that are intentionally difficult to control. Good luck beating a map by yourself. This game is built on cooperation between two or more characters, oftentimes to comedic effect. This game embodies the idea of the journey taking precedence over the destination.

2. ‘ARMS’

Another game that showcases the capabilities of the Switch, ARMS is a departure from most games. It more than takes full advantage of the Switch’s motion control function and puts it center stage.

ARMS has players fight each other with characters who are able to stretch their arms. Players are able to customize each character. ARMS, much like Let’s Dance, is an excellent way for pairs to get off the couch, get some exercise while having fun.

3. ‘Dragon Ball Fighter Z’

No one knew they needed a Dragon Ball Z fighting game, made in the style of Street Fighter until Dragon Ball Fighter Z’s unexpected trailer in 2018. Since then the game has made a splash in the world of competitive gaming. Unlike the majority of past Dragon Ball fighting games, Fighter Z is highly technical and lends itself toward the type of gamers who study the particulars of fighting games. That doesn’t mean that the game can’t also be enjoyed by a more casual crowd, particularly if players are fans of the series the game is based on. Dragon Ball Fighter Z features a cast of everyone’s favorite characters and even has easter eggs alluding to some of the series most iconic moments. This is a must-buy for Dragon Ball fans.

4. ‘Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’

When it comes to cartoonish racing games, Mario Kart gets most of the attention with Team Sonic Racing taking what’s left. But Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled stands on its own as a stellar two-player experience.

The game takes cues from one of the most successful Mario Kart competitors, Diddy Kong Racing. It features characters both popular and obscure. Even without the items, the races often exceed the silliness of Mario Kart.

5. ‘Tetris 99’

The newest installment in the long-running Tetris series. Tetris 99 differentiates itself from its predecessors by emphasizing battle royale gameplay. It’s a concept that many thought wouldn’t work. It turns out Tetris is perfect for a battle royale. In Tetris 99, 99 players play each other until only one remains. If playing with 98 other players sounds like too much for you, the game also boasts a local feature where you can play head-to-head with one other player on the same screen. Tetris 99 is the perfect game to introduce a new generation of gamers to a beloved classic.

6. ‘Resident Evil 6’

Another port that takes full advantage of the Twitch’s two-player functionality. Resident Evil 6 might not be as critically acclaimed as its immediate sequel or the recent pair of remakes but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t offer a good two-player experience. Packing three (technically four) stories into one game, each campaign revolves around two of six characters. While the campaign can be completed solo, playing them with a partner makes the experience more enjoyable.

7. ‘Super Mario Maker 2’

There might be some debate about Super Mario Maker’s status as a two-player game. Yes, each of the stages is played by a single player but the added element of stage creation makes it as much of a two-player game as the others on this list. Watching friends struggle to navigate one of your stages is almost as satisfying as beating your friend’s particularly pesky stage. A two-person session of Super Mario Maker can easily turn into a game of tit for tat which is part of what makes this game so appealing.

8. ‘Splatoon 2’

Splatoon hit markets boasting an interesting take on the traditional shooter game: instead of directly targeting your opponents, target the environment around you. Gamers took to the concept making the first Splatoon a commercial success, which convinced Nintendo executives to quickly put out a sequel that expands and improves on the original. Splatoon 2 takes everything people loved about Splatoon and dials it up to 11. The style is whimsical and colorful. The gameplay is fast and, above all else, hyper-competitive. The simplicity behind the games makes it possible for newbies to play without feeling overwhelmed and without alienating more skilled players. It’s a game that appeals to the greatest number of people.

9. ‘Snipperclips’

Another game geared toward cooperation. Snipperclips despite appearances can get quite complicated as the game progresses. Each stage is a puzzle requiring pairs to move objects, set off meticulously constructed chain reactions, and shape each others’ avatars to better solve puzzles.

The variety of puzzles helps keep the game fresh and the option to play with an extra couple makes for great replayability. When players are finished with the puzzles there are also a number of competitive game modes.

10. ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’

Mario Kart is one of Nintendo’s pillars, and for good reason. Nintendo is a company that emphasizes fun group gameplay and few other games epitomize this more than Mario Kart

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the current pinnacle of the franchise. Taking a little bit of everything from all of the Mario Karts that came before it, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has everything that longtime Mario Kart fans love and little of what they hate. If racing isn’t your thing, the game also has added game modes to keep you and a friend (or several) entertained.

11. ‘Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons’

Perhaps the oldest game on this list, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is also one of the most critically acclaimed. Released in 2013, the game follows the lives of two brothers as they try to cope with tragedy while undergoing a mystical quest. Seven years after its initial release and both the story and gameplay still hold up. Last year’s Nintendo Switch Port added a two-player mode, allowing players to take control of both of the titular brothers. This added element now emphasizes cooperation between the two brothers and is a perfect example of gameplay enhancing the story itself.

12. ‘Rocket League’

Much like Overwatch, Nintendo fans weren’t exactly positive if there would be a Rocket League port for the Nintendo Switch, even though the game seemed like a perfect addition. Luckily, the port did eventually come and allowed players to take advantage of Nintendo’s local multiplayer capabilities. This helped Rocket League blossom into the competitive e-sport that is today.

More casual players probably won’t be able to mimic the gravity-defying stunts more seasoned players are able to do but the game is still fun, especially when played with teammates.

13. ‘Mortal Kombat 11’

Put larger than life characters in various arenas to fight to the death in the most violent and over the top way possible. It’s a formula that has worked for the long-running Mortal Kombat franchise since the 1990s and the folks at Netherrealm don’t seem too inclined to make any changes. Not that they have to. Mortal Kombat has maintained a healthy player base since its inception and is considered a genre-defining game. Mortal Kombat 11 may have upgraded the graphics and tweaked some of the gameplay but the tried and true Mortal Kombat everyone has come to expect is still there in all its gory glory. Two-player matches continue to be an exercise in embarrassing your opponent, which is one of the biggest draws of the game.

14. ‘Just Dance’

Just Dance is a perfect blend of fun and silly. The spiritual successor of Dance Dance Revolution, Just Dance doesn’t simply require the player to step on certain parts of a platform with perfect timing. Just Dance requires you to mimic actual dance moves. Luckily the game is somewhat forgiving for those not as physically coordinated as others. This allows for almost anyone to take part. And with a large variety of songs and dances to choose from, Just Dance allows for a slightly more robust experience, relative to other get-up-and-move games.

15. ‘Overcooked 2′

An entry into the gamefy-reality genre, Overcooked lets teams of players experience the joy of managing and maintaining a restaurant. It’s a game in which no single player is an island and success is completely contingent on your ability to work with your partner. It’s a game that can be fun or frustratingly stressful depending on the dynamic you share with the person you are playing with. 16. ‘Luigi’s Mansion 3’

The third installment in one of the most criminally underrated titles in Nintendo’s roster, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a standout among the Switch’s catalog. As varied and robust as mainstream Mario games, Luigi’s Mansion has always stood on its own two feet, particularly with the addition of multiplayer. 17. ‘1-2 Switch’

One part game, one part showcase for all of the Switch’s multiplayer capabilities, 1-2 Switch is the quintessential two-player Switch game. The game pitted two players against each other in some of the most ridiculous (and entertaining) mini-games the minds at Nintendo could think of. For fans of this game, the silliness is the point.

Although the variety of the games isn’t large enough to lend itself to extended plays, 1-2 Switch is perfect for family get-togethers and unexpected moments of silliness.

18. ‘Sonic Mania’

The idea of a two-player Sonic game in its original style raised some eyebrows, particularly among those who grew up with Sonic and remember how frenzied things got with just one blue sprite zipping across the screen. Sonic Mania, however, quelled those concerns.

While the game largely coincides with the spirit of the original games, the philosophy has been slightly tweaked. Speedy, streamlined gameplay isn’t as heavily emphasized and an element of cooperation is added. This makes for a game that doesn’t always pit players against each other in a race to the finish. Instead, players have to rely on one another to get past some of the game’s more difficult obstacles. It’s a formula change that seemed to work in Nintendo’s favor if the critical acclaim the game managed to garner is any indication.

One of the most commercially successful games on this list, Overwatch only came to the Nintendo Switch after a vocal group of fans expressed their desire to play the first-person shooter on the go. In the interim between the Switch’s release and the game’s availability on the Switch, the Overwatch team made sure the game took full advantage of the system’s two-player functionality.

The controls on the Switch are crisp and snappy, which is important for such a competitive game. More importantly, the Switch version of the game is not watered down, in terms of graphics. It looks and feels almost identical to versions found on other platforms, which was a concern for Overwatch fans prior to release. Although the game is now in its sixth year, it’s base of players is still strong and updates are still regular.

Cuphead, much like the Nintendo Switch, made quite the splash upon its arrival. Fans showed up for the game’s Betty Boop-esque old anime aesthetic and stayed for the punishing gameplay. The game is so difficult, it is often compared to the likes of Dark Souls, the gold standard of difficult games. The 12 Best Wrestling Documentaries

At the border of fact and fiction is pro-wrestling: a clandestine world in which athletes agree to a sacred code so as to keep the secrets of the industry as safe as possible. But with the downfall of kayfabe probably occurring long before the sport’s heyday in the 1980s, who has the right to say what is “the truth?”

The history of wrestling documentaries is complicated, especially because so many are filled with outright lies. That being said, some films on the subject can at least help explain the bizarre appeal of these combat spectaculars.

We’ve narrowed down a list of 12 fascinating documentaries that don’t exactly make the boundary between reality and fantasy more firm — but at least help elucidate certain aspects of the industry. From openly gay icons to superstars battling addiction: here’s our list of the best movies exploring this mysterious business.

1. ‘Gaea Girls’

American wrestling fans often undervalue the toughness and grit of Japan’s Joshi superstars. Perhaps no other film has explored the brutality of wrestling training as plainly as Kim Longinotto and Jano Williams’s Gaea Girls, a 2000 documentary on Chigusa Nagayo and Meiko Satoumura’s vicious dojo. Although all the participants are consenting adults, the violence enacted upon the school’s trainees borders uncomfortably on abuse. Nagayo’s rigid tutelage clearly is informed by her dedication and respect for the craft of pro-wrestling — at times it seems as if she is on some kind of sacred pursuit with her students — but to what extent is her involvement in the sport an extension of her unresolved trauma and sadism? Although quite minimalist in style, the emotionally complex questions are the real subject of this challenging little film that caused even the directors to shed several tears:  “I believed that wrestling was all show,” Longinotto told The Independent, “and that we were going to make a film about wonderfully dedicated women athletes … In a way, the more disturbing it got, the more hooked we became.”

2. ‘GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling’

Netflix’s deeply earnest drama about women in a campy 80’s wrestling federation was directly inspired by this emotionally moving documentary depicting the real-life struggles of the fighters in a semi-parodic TV show that somehow garnered a cult following. While the movie does explore the long-term damage done to these women’s’ bodies, what it also considers is the eternal friendships fortified by hairspray and bloodshed. It’s simply impossible to not shed a tear when the cast is finally reunited — prompting them to break out into the hideously written rapping that made the show a guilty pleasure when it aired decades ago.

3. ‘Beyond The Mat’

The Paris is Burning of wrestling documentaries, Beyond The Mat is imminently quotable, relentlessly tragic, and implicitly charming. The occasionally irritating naivete of director Barry W. Blaustein is an interesting canvas onto which a picture of dedication and sacrifice is painted. With close-up portraits of Jake The Snake Roberts, Terry Funk, and Mick Foley that investigate not only the glory but also the melancholy of the industry — Blaustein deftly balances humane empathy and subtle condemnation for these individuals whose lives were both saved and ruined by their sport.

4. ‘Cassandro, the Exotico!’

It’s not often that you see any wrestling media take the form of French New Wave cinema. Director Marie Losier’s magically real depiction of the openly gay luchador Cassandro’s life is more of a visual poem than a fact-finding mission. Losier followed the legendary exótico for years as he battled addiction and his own failing body but continued to wrestle despite the setbacks. Through the film, Cassandro becomes canonized as a kind of living wrestling saint who has now gone on to inspire a new generation of openly queer talent.

“Let people talk!” Cassandro told us last year. “But prove them wrong when you get up in that ring.”

5. ‘Andre The Giant’

HBO’s compassionate portrayal of the life of Andre The Giant explored how one very large man became an even bigger cultural phenomenon. Although the basic information may not be new to die-hard wrestling fans, footage of the notably stoic Vince McMahon actually shedding tears while recounting fond memories of his good friend makes this doc worth the price of admission. In this movie Andre is not just some tough-as-nails brawler, he’s also a lighthearted prankster and somewhat of a gentleman — a side we rarely see if we only live in the world of kayfabe.

6. ‘Nature Boy: 30 For 30’

Ric Flair became a paradigm of opulence in the 1980s by turning braggadociousness into an art form. But what propelled him to success ultimately became his downfall, as his battles with alcoholism robbed him of both his dignity and his family. ESPN’s documentary explores the highs and lows of wrestling’s self-proclaimed greatest entertainer. It’s impossible to deny the propagandist strain of the project — WWE likely had to approve of the film’s final cut when all was said and done — but hearing Ric’s honest (and not always coherent) thoughts about his own accomplishments and tribulations makes for an interesting study of a psychologically damaged yet somehow still triumphant person.

7. ‘The Great Sasuke’

The Great Sasuke at one point was a global wrestling icon, dazzling audiences around the world with daringly graceful, high-flying acrobatics. After receiving a telepathic message from God himself — or so Sasuke claimed — the masked brawler embarked on a life of dashing adventure until his body began collapsing in on itself. This documentary is a meditation faded glamour but also a thesis on the enduring dignity of a star who continues to inspire hope for so many fans. With a runtime of only an hour and ten minutes, this slice-of-life movie is a humanizing picture of a real-life masked superhero.

8. ‘Lucha Mexico’

Although American pro-wrestlers continue to amass a growing mythos, the worship of our costumed athletes is nothing compared to the majesty of luchadors in Latin America. With its own idiosyncratic cultural milieu, the glory and mystique of Lucha Libre are revealed as both more honorable and far bloodier than its more sanitized United States counterpart in this revealing and thoughtful documentary that treats the subject with an incredible honor. Spotlights are focused on Blue Demon Jr., Sexy Star, Arkangel, and Faby Apache, who discuss their dreams, ambitions, and fears about life in the ring while paying respects to those who martyred themselves before them.

9. ‘Breaking Ground’

As with everything produced by WWE, it’s impossible to tell what in this short-lived docu-series is completely fabricated to create an aura of prestige around the company itself and what is actual fact. That being said, Breaking Ground (narrated by William Shatner!) provided a brief peek into the lives of what at the time was WWE’s minor leagues, showing just how charming many of NXT’s rising stars truly are. From Nia Jax working on her entrance to Tyler Breeze adopting a stray dog, Breaking Ground is an interesting meta-experiment showing how WWE actually creates three-dimensional characters through more than just in-ring work. The high point is Sami Zayn offering a semiotic breakdown of how wrestling works as a language: A match is a story, each sequence is a sentence, the moves are words, and the pins are punctuation.

10. ‘Omega Man: A Wrestling Love Story’

Although the film faced a small backlash from a vocal group of LGBTQs who felt the movie — and Kenny Omega’s career — was queerbaiting, the Omega Man documentary is nonetheless groundbreaking for non-judgmentally tackling the taboo subject of queerness in pro-wrestling at all. Serving as a brief retrospective of the eponymous hero’s career, by focusing in on the Golden Lovers storyline, documentarian Yung Chang taps into the emotionality of a deeply meaningful homo-social (but probably not homosexual) romance in order to explain the appeal of pro-wrestling as a long-term storytelling medium. Kenny remains charmingly socially awkward throughout.

11. ‘Card Subject To Change’

An excellent documentary for entry-level wrestling fans to learn about the passion of indie and TV wrestlers and the basics of what goes on in the industry. Simple and clear descriptions of wrestling history are paired with gut-wrenching footage from indie shows, laying out an accessible explanation of why people become so enraptured in this bizarre and bloody sport. Not too much new information for lifelong fans or industry insiders but a good reminder of the sacrifices wrestling truly requires. Beware: the film features some truly sanguine scenes.

12. ‘Dark Side of the Ring’

With the explosion of true crime’s popularity within the past decade, it’s no surprise that someone would explore the underbelly of the pro-wrestling world within that genre. Although at first, it might seem like a stretch, the mash-up actually makes perfect sense: “This is [a] world where [reality] is very gray,” producer Evan Husney told Oxygen.com in 2019. “There are so many true crime stories about unjust murders – honestly this show was just trying to be ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ but with wrestling … We were trying to separate fact from fiction. But not just literally in the pursuit of truth — it’s more about trying to play in that gray area. We’re trying to show you how that gray area is super unique and singular to wrestling.”

Vice’s controversial docu-series is now on its second season and has explored a wide variety of topics ranging from Bruiser Brody’s murder to the legend of New Jack. Each episode does a good job of balancing essential info for non-wrestling fans and obscure factoids for the more hardcore audience.

12 Online Dating Profile Tips

Technology has infiltrated dating life as we know it. As much as you want to build an authentic connection, you’d be lying if you said you hadn’t turned to the plethora of dating apps to seek it out. Now is not a time to shy away from technology, but rather embrace how even a swipe on Tinder can lead to something great (or content for a jaw-dropping story, whichever way you want to look at it).

Sticking out amidst a sea of other men can be daunting sometimes, which leads to either no effort in your dating profile or an onslaught of information that would scare even the most kindhearted person away.

Men, it’s time to stop soliciting advice from your bros on how your profile measures up. They’re failing you, but there’s hope when you take advice from a woman who’s seen every profile in the books.

1. Eliminate the Checklist of Your Perfect Match
@zigray via Twenty20

We get it — the dream girl that lives in your head accompanies you to the gym every day, prepares five-star meals every night, and doesn’t shy away from adrenaline-filled adventures. She’s also under 5’6,” has flowing hair down her back, and her hip to waist ratio is off the charts … Yes, that sounds just as ridiculous as the checklist we constantly read on your profiles.

The girl you think you want and the girl you need might be two completely different people. While there might be women out there that match your checklist, you’re severely limiting your pool of potential lovers by writing people off that don’t fit the designated mold. Dating apps are not portals for you to build the “perfect match,” but rather seek out real, imperfect people.

2. State Your Intentions Without Being Rude

Naturally, people are on dating apps for a variety of reasons. Whether you’re chasing something serious or just want something super casual, that should be disclosed from the jump, and not when you’re sitting down at the bar with a match.

Women aren’t going to write you off for wanting something casual because news flash – all women aren’t vying for a relationship. A simple “looking for something more casual” goes a long way.

3. Limit Group Photos

Even if being selfish and self-centered isn’t in your DNA, learn to put the spotlight completely on you. Yes, it’s nice to see that you’re socialized and are open to being out and about, but no one should have to play detective to see who you are. What if your cute friend steals the spotlight and now a potential match is disappointed? Online apps, unfortunately, bring out the superficial side of all genders.

Save the group photo for your last picture, and don’t open with it.

4. Show Your Face

You would think it’s a given, but there are too many dating profiles out there that literally have no human pictures on them. Yes, your dog is adorable and that meme is slightly hilarious, but there are plenty of those types of pictures floating around Instagram. It also helps to ease suspicion that you’re actually who you say you are.

No matter how intriguing your bio is or how much you want to play some real-life version of  Love Is Blind, it doesn’t work in the online dating realm.

5. Save Your Life Story for a Date

Your bio should give a rough synopsis of who you are, and not be an entire chapter. While being open and honest is beautiful, you don’t want to share the nitty-gritty details right off the bat. Reading a life story as a first impression might be overwhelming to some (or nearly all) people who would’ve swiped right on you.

Even if you’re a stunner and you know it, after reading through five paragraphs of your autobiography, you’re getting a next.

Screenshot

6. Your Height Is Not a Personality Trait

If you got it, flaunt it – to a certain extent. Putting “6’1” since apparently it matters” has to be the most cliche pattern in the dating world. Especially when it’s the only thing in your bio, it’s elevated to cringe-worthy.

What’s your Myers-Briggs personality type? The sports team you’d go to war for? Zodiac sign? The pet that’s more like your child? Are you a proud parent? Craziest thing you’ve done while traveling? Literally, anything would be more interesting than reading about how you share the near exact height as half of the people on the same app.

7. Don’t Trash the App

If your opening line is, “This app is trash but here I am,” please join the club. For the longest, everyone has envisioned they’d meet their soulmate by some grand twist of fate, but for so many people, the bar is set at swiping right.

Whether you like it or not, you signed up for whichever dating platform by your own free will. It’s all about the glass half full or half empty mindset. Channel and reverse that energy into some positivity: “This app might bring me my future partner, who knows?

8. Liking ‘The Office’ Isn’t Cutting Edge

Maybe this should be a golden rule for all humans, but there are certain things beloved by a majority of the population. This lengthy list includes but is not limited to The Office, tacos, pizza, and beer.

We’re not telling you not to love things, but if you can recite every episode of The Office season one, that’s mighty different than just casually watching it like nearly every other person on the planet. Your profile should be all about what sets you apart from people and not why you’re the same.

9. Don’t Be Vulgar

Some people use dating apps for one thing and one thing only. We’re well aware, but opening with sexually-charged bios can be straight-up scary. 99 percent of these bios don’t take consent into account, but rather pedal off what they and only they would like to do behind closed doors.

If you’re one of them, it’s time to cut the bio and start from scratch.

10. Include a Variety of Pics

Now that you’ve got the basics of pictures down, it’s time to add another layer to that. Include multiple pictures that show you and only you in some solid lighting. You don’t have to have a whole bathroom or gym photoshoot but pull in some natural pictures of you at a sports game, school, traveling, or doing whatever you love.

We’re talking a minimum of four to five pictures. So even if pictures make you roll your eyes, suck it up for 30-seconds and flash that pretty smile.

11. Bashing Other Women Is Never Okay

Even if you’re only looking for a certain type of woman, that doesn’t need to be paraded in your bio. Whether you have a fetish for a certain race, ethnicity, size, accent, or weight, whatever the case may be, putting down another woman in your bio will nearly guarantee zero interaction.

“Swipe left if you’re over 160 lbs” or “no women of color allowed,” is completely nonsensical and gross. A match goes both ways, so if you’re only interested in one type of person, then only swipe on that type of person. Please don’t announce it to the world.

12. Remember, There Is No One Like You

Alright, now you have the low down on what works and what doesn’t. Above everything else, know that there is no one like you. If you have a random, secret passion for Animal Crossing and want to share that in your bio, do it. Confidence is key. There’s someone for everyone, so don’t be embarrassed to share your passions. Someone out there will be impressed by them.

Kap G Talks ‘Frida Homies’ and Working with Pharrell

On this week’s episode of our podcast Monday to Monday, host Mike Boyd chats with Atlanta rapper/singer Kap G. They cover a lot of ground this week, discussing Kap G’s commitment to raising up the voice of the immigrant community, what he’s learned from his close work with Pharrell and his upcoming project, Frida Homies.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

They begin the interview talking about Kap G’s experience growing up on the southside of Atlanta. He and his family moved from California to Atlanta when he was young, and he was one of the only Mexican immigrants living in his neighborhood. “Nothing ever stopped me. I think that made me the person I am. I always realized that I was just different. Different from everybody. And instead of pushing that away, I just embraced it. And that’s how I am now,” he reflects on his time growing up in College Park, Georgia.

Kap G goes on to discuss his upcoming project, titled Frida Homies. He shares with Boyd the impetus for the project: “Free the Mexican people. Because right now, they’re in need. They need us right now. It’s kids, y’know in these ICE camps getting separated from their parents. Stuff that’s been going on. People getting deported back to Mexico. People coming here just for the American Dream. It’s just so much stuff. Stuff since I’ve been little, that I could relate to. That I’ve seen.” He adds: “I feel like, we in 2020. It’s the perfect time just to talk about it. Somebody needs to say something about it.”

As a public figure, he’s in a unique position to speak up for the immigrant community, and he takes the responsibility seriously. “Now, like, I been in the game for a minute and I see how kids, how fans look up to me. And it just let me know like, y’know, I gotta speak up for my peoples,” he says.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

Kap G and Mike also spend a bit of time talking about what it’s like to work with Pharrell Williams. “I’ve seen him, you know, be the most… I don’t know, just the strongest man in the room, and he still treats—you know, he treats the janitor with the same respect as the CEO. I respect him for that,” he says of the superstar. Mike asks him what he’s learned from Pharrell, to which he thoughtfully responds: “Just stay working, stay humble. Work smart. That man is a genius. He got so much success and I see why, like just being around him. How he hears music. He stays in the studio. He stays locked in. He’s consistent.”

In typical Monday to Monday fashion, Mike and Kap G talk about some of the artist’s favorite songs from his discography. Gary Vee loves “Marvelous Day,” and so Kap spends a bit of time discussing the development of that track. Mike asks Kap G for his favorite release, and he responds with an older track from 2013. “For me, I would probably say ‘Tatted Like Amigos.’” He goes on to say, “Now, I feel like I’ve grown a lot, I know a lot about the game now. But I just made that song, I wasn’t trying to make no hit or nothing, I just made a song. I thought it was something cool to me at the time. And I made it, got Sosa on it, and it just started going crazy. And I feel like that just a classic.”

During quarantine, Kap G is spending most of his time working out, and believes that a commitment to physical health is a good strategy for staying sharp. “I think working out is good for health, y’know what I’m saying, and even just your mind. It makes you not want to be lazy,” he says. “I’m a come out like the Rock.”

If you loved this episode and want to hear Mike chat with more rappers, singers, managers and producers, make sure to check out last week’s episode, when he spoke with legendary DJ OG Ron C.

Chase Bank Is Celebrating 2020 Grads with a Virtual Commencement, Featuring a Few of Our Favorite Celebs

For students, online classes and stay at home orders are having a real impact on routines and the daily flow of life in general. It’s particularly a tough time to be a graduating senior because there won’t be traditional graduations where students get to walk across the stage with a diploma in hand and a huge smile on their faces.

But don’t worry, there’s good news and we have Chase to thank for that. Because the company isn’t just sympathizing with students—it’s going the extra mile to support seniors by organizing a virtual graduation ceremony called “Show Me Your Walk. “As a mom of a Class of 2020 high school senior, I know these students have put in an amazing effort, and we should all rally around them to celebrate their achievements,” said Leslie Gillin, Chief Marketing Officer at Chase. There is a bright future ahead, and it will be so much better because of them.”

And to make the event even more special Chase has got Kevin Hart, Serena Williams, and Steph Curry on board to all help congratulate the graduates. The trio will be 2020 commencement speakers for everyone graduating everywhere. It’s all going to go down tomorrow, May 2, with the goal of sharing some wisdom and setting graduates up for financial success, too.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

Thasunda Brown, CEO of Chase Consumer Banking, told us about the event in an awesome and optimistic Instagram post. In addition to the commencement ceremony featuring Curry, Hart, and Williams, students are also being encouraged to participate by using the hashtag “ShowMeYourWalk” on Tiktok.

The challenge is for all seniors from high school to grad school. It’s meant to let everyone know that Chase recognizes their achievements, that they’re being celebrated, and that graduating in these trying times is a feat that doesn’t go unnoticed.

“I really want to give the message that we’re really proud to see what they’re doing,” Williams, 38, told People. “I definitely want to talk about goals and how it takes countless hours to reach a goal. I want to remind them that success is subjective…success is what you make it, mostly. I hope to provide nuggets of wisdom that have kind of worked along my journey.”

Curry co-signed this sentiment, telling the magazine, “This is a way for everybody to collectively step up and celebrate that class that has put so much work in. Everybody, through this virus and pandemic, we’re missing that physical interaction and that ability to be with people that matter the most to you in the same room and have laughs and shared experiences.”

Don’t forget to show your support for grads everywhere by tuning in to the “Show Me Your Walk” event tomorrow, Saturday, May 2nd, at 2 pm EST on Twitter and YouTube.

And here’s Kevin, showing you how to “Show Your Walk”:
