Levi’s 501 Day Features Trading Cards and NFT’s for Charity

Every year on May 20th, Levi’s celebrates “501 Day”, paying homage to the patent date of the 501 Original back in 1873. This year is the 148th anniversary and Levi’s has come out with a commemorative trading card set featuring Barbie Ferreira, Emma Chamberlain, Hailey Bieber, Jaden Smith, Marcus Rashford, Naomi Osaka, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. 

What’s Inside the Packs?

The cards boast simple designs and feature the celebrities and athletes sporting Levi’s outfits on solid colored backgrounds. Roughly 8,000 packs will be distributed globally, but they aren’t for sale. They are only available through Levi’s stores globally, as well through the website. If you order a pair of 501 Jeans you will be gifted a pack in the back pocket. 

Inside of each pack you will find white base cards with the possibility of hitting chase cards such as red parallels /50, blue parallels /10, grey parallels /50, gold parallels /1 as well as numbered autos and denim relics containing patches of Levi’s jeans that were worn by the talent embedded in the cards.

Today at 1pm, there will be an auction for digital NFT’s on Bitski that will have two versions available, including a red 1/1 featuring Naomi Osaka, and a white open edition that costs $50 and is time based, meaning they will mint as many as people order.

All proceeds will be donated to Naomi Osaka’s foundation, Play Academy by Naomi Osaka via Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Osaka will be on Clubhouse tonight at 8:01pm (5:01 PST) as the auction closes.

Jeff Staple and GaryVee’s VeeFriends Team Up on Streetwear Capsule

Last week, Gary Vaynerchuk’s long-awaited NFT project VeeFriends dropped and practically shut the internet down. The collection features numerous doodles from the king of content himself, each captured by an alliterative adjective-noun: “Adaptable Alien,” “Adventurous Astronaut,” “Tenacious Termite”, to name a few. One of the most beloved characters in the collection—immediately following its announcement—was Perspective Pigeon.

For the streetwear aficionados out there, there are few names more recognizable than Jeff Staple, who famously uses his iconic Staple Pigeon in many of his designs. Fans of GaryVee and Staple alike drew the connection immediately, tagging Jeff in the comments of the post. This IG image sparked the collaboration, which happened incredibly quickly. GaryVee told HYPEBEAST: “I’ve been a fan of Jeff’s work for a long time and I immediately DM’ed him and we got on a call that day.”

We spoke with Andy Krainak, Executive Vice President at Team GaryVee, who was immensely involved in the VeeFriends launch and, now, the collaboration with Jeff Staple. In our conversation, similarly to Gary, he emphasized how rapidly the collaboration came about. “It’s cool to see, for how notable Jeff is, how easy he’s been to work with and how quick this was able to happen,” Krainak told ONE37pm. He went on to say: “It’s only been three weeks from that Instagram post to today’s launch.” That’s the digital age we live in.

If you’re trying to cop the gear, the Staple x GaryVee collection is available now exclusively on staplepigeon.com for the 55 hours following its launch earlier this morning. Additionally, all of those who own a VeeFriends Perspective Pigeon NFT will receive the collection for free. Part of what made VeeFriends so great was how much utility it provided to buyers, and this drop continues to build on that ethos.

“My great hope is that people look back at this in two or three years and say, ‘wow, that was one of the early indications of how we could do things creatively with NFTs and collaborations,’” Vaynerchuk told HYPEBEAST. This collaboration allows NFT drops to continue to evolve after their release; NFTs are about building an ongoing community. The Staple x GaryVee collaboration will surely be the first of many like it.

NFL Legend Tim Brown Releases Official NFT Collection

NFL legend Tim Brown is one of the greatest players to ever grace the football field. A supremely talented wide receiver who played seventeen seasons (majority of whom were spent with the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders), eventually joining the elite H2H in 2015 when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (only nine other players in NFL history have a won the coveted Heisman and been inducted into the Hall). With NFTs taking over the game, many prominent figures have decided to throw their names into the hats with personalized collections, and Brown is one of the latest.

Joining forces with Hall of Fame Resort and Entertainment Company, H2H, and content studio and marketing company Dolphin Entertainment, Brown is now set to release his first official collection, Brown is now set to release his first official collection. Ahead of the announcement, we spoke with Brown about his jump into the NFT space, if this is something he could have seen himself doing five years ago, and the development process behind building this collection.

ONE37pm: NFT’s have been around for a while, but we have really seen the NFT game explode over these past couple of months. What made you decide to start your own collection?

Brown: No—I probably found out about NFTs around the same time you guys did! Obviously when Patrick Mahomes and Gronk released theirs it got a lot of attention, and it looked like a good opportunity to showcase your memorabilia. You know you can only go to so many autograph sessions, so I looked at it as something that may be different than normal, but you can finally have something to offer—this could follow an art collection.

ONE37pm: What has the process been like for you in terms of preparation?

Brown: You know it’s kind of funny, you hear the word process, and it’s sort of synonymous with work, and it hasn’t been that. I’ve been having different conversations with the artist, but it’s been simple! It’s not like you have to spend two months of your life working on it, and I think when more athletes realize how easy it is, they’ll get it on it too.

ONE37pm: Was there a learning curve for you as far as NFTs go?

Brown: Well, I haven’t seen anyone else’s NFTs. I’ve been working on mine, and it’s been great, but if it’s somebody else’s, it may be more difficult to understand. With mine, I’m pretty happy with it!

ONE37pm: Obviously, you are an NFL Legend and one of the GOATs. Your NFT collection is a reflection of your storied career. Is this something that you could have ever imagined maybe five years ago? 

Brown: I’m sort of ‘out there’ when it comes to my thinking. You know sometimes with opportunities things can become a bit stale and boring. So if someone had told me this five years ago, I definitely would have had my hand raised because I would have been open to hearing about something new.

ONE37pm: We’ve sort of mentioned it, but what can fans expect from the collection? They have a chance to have a special one-on-one phone call with you right?

Brown: Oh yeah! It’s going to be the Zoom call of a lifetime without a doubt! You know I’ve gotten really good at this Zoom thing over the last year! We’re going to walk through the house, take a look at some memorabilia—it’s going to be fun! You know this, I would imagine it’s not going to be a one-time deal with whoever buys it. We’ll have a connection because the buyer is going to be a huge Tim Brown fan, so I’m looking forward to it.

ONE37pm: Is the NFT space something you envision yourself operating in the long term?

Brown: Without a doubt. Obviously I don’t know what this is going to look like years down the road—I don’t think anyone knows. We are happy with the collection, and if it can be updated in the future, we’ll make it happen!

ONE37pm: Last but not least, do you have a favorite item in your collection?

Brown: The Heisman and the Gold Jacket. Those two things are special, and there are only nine other players who can say they have both of those, so it’s definitely special.

The Future of Fashion: RTFKT Studios Teams up with CryptoPunks

If you’ve been keeping up with NFTs at all over the last few months, then odds are you know the CryptoPunks. Between their Christie’s show last week and numerous record-breaking sales, the LarvaLabs project has become one of the most well-known digital art projects in the NFT space globally. Couple that with RTFKT studios, the game changing collective—that produced works like the FEWO Sneaker drop, their Space Drip collection and more—and you’ve got yourself a collaboration built to destroy the internet.

Last week, RTFKT worked together with the LarvaLabs team to launch a series of 10,000 sneaker NFTs, one for each corresponding Punk, only available to the owner of the digital avatar. The project formally dropped last Tuesday, but Punk owners are able to redeem their punk through this coming Sunday on the RTFKT site.

The RTFKT team told ONE37pm: “Through the project, we’ve met and discovered amazing people, innovators, creators, each with their own story and skills. Like characters of a unique society, shaping the new world.” The Space Pirate RTFKT team also worked with the mad genius scientist MGXS to create a unique website for each punk.

RTFKT went on to say: “We loved doing this project for Punks, and it’s just the beginning. More experiences, physicals and Metaverse drop will unlock via your punk.” As was the case with RTFKT’s previous forging event, last week’s drop didn’t include any unlock-able items for the general public, but rather built on access and perks for current owners of CryptoPunks. Each Punk owner will have access to:

  • 1/1 Punk Sneaker NFT
  • 1 Complementary Physical sneaker forging
  • 1/1 VXL Portrait
  • Metaverse Wearable voxel files

The physical sneaker will first become available to owners on June 22nd. This is just the beginning; there will be more unlocking events down the line.

Looking at the NBA Top Shot Market Before the Playoffs, with Jack Settleman

With the NBA Playoffs right around the corner, I think this is a good time to look at the NBA Top Shot market. 

Finally, it appears that the market has stabilized. 

Obviously, it came out guns blazing. But then a market correction did happen. It feels like this is the first time where we are seeing some stability. This doesn’t mean that the prices won’t drop, but it does mean that the days of a 10 percent decrease a day are most likely over. 

Since the market was crashing, what have we seen?

  1. Users have now seen access to withdrawals, which was an early that we addressed in the first couple of Top Shot blogs. 
  1. Dappers also made a lot of new hires, some coming from the NFL. The emphasis seems to be on building out the business with high level marketing members and having a strategic focus. 
  1. Top Shot has done a good job of responding to feedback. Whether it be the requirements on pack drops or removing bots from the release pool. Listening to the community will be massive for Dapper and even though it is early in their career span, they’ve seem to be receptive to feedback. 
  1. A new “King” has come forth in the NBA sphere. “Dingaling” has quickly become one of the more invested consumers of the Top Shot community. In the last few weeks, he has risen to the top ten most valued moment ranks. The “King” came in and purchased these moments “off-market” which factored into his large investment.

I also have some thoughts/predictions about the market as the playoffs roll through… so let’s take a glance into the crystal ball.

Buy the rumors, sell the news.

Let’s say you think the Bucks will have a great playoffs. And you decide to invest in Giannis, Middleton, and Holiday…

BE PREPARED TO SELL. I do think the market will react to player performances so don’t be afraid to sell just a pinch earlier than you think.

Don’t overthink about who matters.

Don’t get fancy with Joe Harris. Stick to the basics. Buy Durant. Buy Harden. Buy Irving. The odds of a non-superstar becoming the face of a team are remarkably unlikely. Andre Iguodala winning the finals MVP is HIGHLY unlikely and shouldn’t be your model.

Avoid FOMO.

While the playoffs are the most electric time of the year… you don’t need to “FOMO” in. There will undoubtedly be a market dip during the off-season, and the NFL will ramp up. Again, this is no different than the sports card market. Keeping that cash in hand for a few months from now is not a bad idea. Once the season ends, I expect a market dip.

Cara Delevingne Teams up with Chemical X on ThisIsNumberOne NFT Project

Today, the legendary supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne will be teaming up with anonymous artist Chemical X and musicians DJ Fatboy Slim, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and the British dance music duo Orbital to release ThisIsNumberOne. In the preview video of her piece, entitled “Mine,” Delevingne speaks frankly about the intimate project, which focuses on her relationship with her body. “Mine” is one of 5 items launching this week on ThisIsNumberOne with Chemical X—the next four are collaborations with dance music artists.

Cara said of her piece: “I want this to remind people of how incredibly powerful they are, what a beautiful thing their bodies are and to take pride in that.” All of the proceeds from Cara’s launch will go towards the Cara Delevingne Foundation, which supports women’s rights, the LGBTQ community, mental health and environmental causes.

Fatboy Slim’s piece, entitled, ‘So Why Try Harder’, features singing smiley faces that evoke early acid house culture alongside a specially recorded quirky Fatboy Slim soundtrack—as Fatboy Slim fans would expect. I’m personally a huge Fatboy Slim fan; my childhood was punctuated by moments of listening to “Weapon of Choice” with the windows rolled down in the sun. Slim, whose real name is Norman Cook, said of the project: “I’ve always been a big fan of art and so I jumped at the chance to create something I’ve never done before.” Part of what makes NFT culture so cool is the way in which it is inspiring innovators to get involved with art more generally.

The artwork goes live today and will be on display for 7 days during which time ‘expressions of interest’ can be made. If a private sale is not agreed after that time, they will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All of the #1 NFTs on the site are in an edition of 1.

The project marks a collaboration between Chemical X and blockchain tech company Risidio. Risidio has big plans for the year, including the the launch of Risidio Xchange—a fully decentralized auction platform for digital collectibles on Stacks 2.0. Peter Ponton, CEO of Risidio said of the Chemical X project: “For Risidio, this particular project is the gateway to a user-owned internet that is fair for all. Working together in collaboration with Stacks, our collective aim is to build a better internet on Bitcoin that gives ownership of our identity, data, and wealth back to the individual and away from the corporations that currently sell it back to us.”

One of the most interesting elements of the drop, from a technical perspective, is where the project is being minted. As opposed to being minted on Ethereum, as is the case with most major NFT projects, ThisIsNumberOne will be minted using Bitcoin via Stacks. Current gas prices of ETH (and its exploding value) are sometimes an obstacle to getting into the NFT game, so projects minted on other blockchains provide an interesting alternate avenue.

Gary Vaynerchuk Launches VeeFriends

The long-awaited day is finally here. The man himself has been hinting at an NFT drop for weeks now, and today the magic is finally happening. GaryVee’s genesis NFT project, “VeeFriends” is launching today.

The project is comprised of 10,255 tokens, broken down into 9400 admission tokens, 555 gift goats, and 300 access tokens; including many one-of-ones. The tokens are based on 268 drawings of VeeFriends done by the king of content himself. The project takes cues from some other immensely successful NFT collections, like CryptoPunks or Meebits (both LarvaLabs joints), which are comprised of a slew of similar images with variations, so folks can bid on the perceived rarity of each member of the collection. 
Every token doubles as a three-year admission token to VeeCon, an annual super-conference. The tokens are broken up into three categories: Access, Gift and Admission. You can read up on the accompanying perks of each kind of token here. One of the highlights? The 5 “Scholarship Access” tokens, which give the buyer the “opportunity to redeem mentoring and coaching from Gary personally as well as his professional network.” Pretty sick.

There are numerous ways in which the drop separates itself from traditional NFT drops. Immutable and ‘Guild of Guardians’ Partners Up With Ubisoft

The creatives at Immutable and Stepico Games have been hard at work on a brand new entry into the growing blockchain gaming space – Guild of Guardians. The game publishing and developing duo are looking to simultaneously deliver a quality mobile action RPG and provide players with an opportunity to turn their love for gaming into beneficial NFTs. By the looks of it, interest is at an all-time high for the 2022 release – Guild of Guardians has managed to garner 130,000+ pre-registered gamers thus far. Besides using Immutable X for gas free trading, Guild of Guardians has another major component that’s sure to increase its visibility and guarantee its future success.

It was announced that Guild of Guardians has been selected to be a part of the sixth season of the Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Labs program. For those not in the know, that aforementioned Ubisoft venture is led by Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab and is mainly an effort meant to support startups that are creating the types of projects that will push the entertainment industry ever further into a beneficial future. Like past seasons from Ubisoft’s program, the sixth season is making a strong effort towards supporting startups that deal specifically with blockchain technology. Immutable’s previous triumphs in the space and its ongoing work on Guild of Guardians clearly earned the attention of the AAA-gaming publisher/developer, so it comes as no surprise that both companies are now working with each other. Ubisoft’s massive resources should make it easier for Guild of Guardians to achieve mainstream success and make the sub-genre of blockchain games less of a curiosity & more of a recognized gaming spectrum.

Judging by the comments made by individuals from both companies, there’s a lot of excitement regarding the continued development of Guild of Guardians. “We are very proud to be welcoming all of these talented startups for the 6th season of the Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Lab,” said Virginie Haas, Chief Studios Operating Officer at Ubisoft, and sponsor of this sixth season. “This year’s program will be a fantastic opportunity to work with highly innovative startups on topics that matter, now more than ever.”

Guild of Guardians game lead Derek Lau also expressed his excitement regarding the announcement of this newfound partnership. “Our team is thrilled to be part of the prestigious Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Lab program,” he noted. “We share many values with Ubisoft around the power of positive entertainment, and the potential of open world economies. This isn’t the only fruitful partnership that Immutable’s Guild of Guardians has entered into. In a move that evokes images of the scenarios presented in Ready, Player One, characters that are created in Guild of Guardians will be able to be transported to a special Metaverse in conjunction with The Sandbox. The Sandbox, which is a player-created world that’s contained on the Ethereum blockchain, will offer a shared virtual space for custom characters from both games’ universes. With Ubisoft’s unwavering support, virtual world link up with The Sandbox, and overwhelmingly positive player response, Guild of Guardians has all the tools needed to excel in the blockchain gaming space and beyond.

SaveArtSpace Brings CryptoPunks to NYC with “Pixelated”

SaveArtSpace is a non-profit that aims to provide public art in spaces previously overrun by advertising. Last month, SaveArtSpace teamed up with NFT collector GmoneyNFT, to curate a showing of LarvaLabs’ CryptoPunks on billboards and other public spaces around Miami. 96 CryptoPunks were presented around Miami for a full month, giving crypto-enthusiasts and art fans alike an opportunity to see the digital works rendered in the physical world.

Now, the same team that put on Pixelated in Miami is bringing the show to NYC. Throughout the month of May, you’ll be able to find Punks cropping up all over the city that never sleeps. You can see a full map of their locations here, so check it out if you want to get out there and go on a Punks treasure hunt. The unstoppable NFT project will be popping up on bus shelters, phone booths and billboard ad spaces in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.

The launch of Pixelated in NYC coincides with CryptoPunks collaboration with Christie’s Auction House. On Tuesday, May 11th, Christie’s will be auctioning off a series of 9 Punks in their 21st Century Evening Sale. Between Pixelated and the Christie’s Collab, CryptoPunks is becoming a cultural icon, representing the ever-evolving art world and the myriad of ways in which digital art can be disseminated to the viewer.

Exhibitions like Pixelated are so immensely interesting because they demonstrate the potential of NFT projects outside of the digital realm. By bringing these images into the physical space, Pixelated and its curator, GmoneyNFT, allow CryptoPunks to exist as a true piece of viewable artwork, as opposed to just a digital asset with a value to watch. The NFT world is only just getting started.

DJ Skee Teams up with Collectable to Launch BR3: A Babe Ruth Card and NFT

DJ Skee is well-known for bringing a lot of now-world famous artists to the limelight by playing their music on his show, Dash Radio. He’s also an active entrepreneur, always on the lookout for the next opportunity. Thus, naturally, he’s getting into the NFT game, teaming up with sports collectible brand, Collectable to launch a trading card collection coupled with some sick NFTs. The project is available exclusively on eBay, and the auction for the final card ends today at 8:45pm ET. 

The first part of the release featured a red foil version of the card, inspired by Skee’s P70 Blueprint and the greatest baseball player of all time, and sold out in minutes on DJSkee.com. The true-blue version, however, is a one of one and the auction is still live. It’s a gorgeous, hyper-futuristic styled card that comes with an accompanying NFT. The card itself is printed on 130 PT UV coated stock and comes with a special one-touch magnetic case. Ownership of the card comes with full ownership of the digital version, including numerous special 3D renderings and animations of the image. You can take a look at its eBay auction here.

By coupling a trading card release with an NFT component, Skee and Collectable are marrying two of the hottest collectible markets in the game right now. Skee noted: “I’m excited to utilize this moment to help showcase how NFT technology can be used in a different way,” going on to add, “Instead of just creating a digital art piece, this BR3 drop is ushering in a new use case to attribute and verify a physical card and its history using blockchain technology—something I believe will become standardized with many items in the future.” The idea of coupling trading card drops with NFT tech is definitely something we may see more and more of in the future, as its another way to verify ownership other than through a physical asset.
