Bops That Just Dropped: New Lil Baby, A$AP Rocky and Kodak Black

Lil Baby has been teasing new music all year, and it seems like he’s finally ready to release the follow up to 2020’s My Turn. The rapper who has appeared on tracks with Drake, Nicki Minaj and Ed Sheeran this year announced last week that his next album, titled It’s Only Me is dropping in October. The first official track from it is the newly released “Detox.”

Kodak Black is one of the most consistent rappers of the last two years. He’s released project after project, including this year’s gold-selling, Back for Everything. He’s also released several buzz-worthy singles. His latest drop is “For No Reason.”

Surprise, surprise. Fans and followers of A$AP Rocky were unexpectedly gifted some new music. The new track, which is being called “Our Destiny”,  features Playboi Carti and a trippy sample. The accompanying video is just as vibey as the track.

‘X’ — Ken Car$on

If you haven’t heard of Ken Car$on yet, it’s okay, because you will soon. The 19-year-old rapper has been making a name for himself over the course of the last few years. He’s garnered cosigns from VFiles, hit-making producers like Southside and TM88 and Playboi Carti, who serves as executive producer for Car$on’s latest project, X. X is the follow-up to last year’s Project X. With production from emerging producers such as Outtatown, Starboy and Gab3, the 20-track new Ken Carson album features his signature sound, as well as his raps about sex, drugs and his rockstar lifestyle throughout. Car$on says it best on “Murda Musik,” “I live my life like a movie.”

“I Got A Feeling” — Dthangs, French Montana & TDot

French Montana has a knack for spotting talent. Time and time again, he’s been an early supporter of artists before they hit the mainstream. The latest artist on the rise to get French’s stamp of approval is Dthangs. The Bronx-based drill rapper has been building his buzz with gangsta raps, becoming one of the faces of Bronx drill. His 2021 banger “Talk Facts” has over 19 million views on Youtube. Dthangs and French, along with TDot connect for the single “I Got A Feeling.” The song samples the Black Eyed Peas’ 2009 hit “I Gotta Feeling.” With its hard-hitting bars and hypnotic production, “I Got A Feeling” is sure to make waves on the drill scene and beyond. RPTTTTTT!

‘WASTELAND’ — Brent Faiyaz

Even though it took a minute for Brent Faiyaz to release his sophomore album, WASTELAND, it’s been worth the wait. In the almost five years since the release of his debut album, Sonder Son, the toxic singer-songwriter collaborated with some of the most respected names in r&b and hip-hop to help deliver his latest album. The likes of The-Dream, Alicia Keys, No I.D., Tyler, The Creator and Raphael Saadiq contributed to the hotly anticipated project, which also features The Neptunes-produced Drake collab, “Wasting Time.”

‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers’ — Kendrick Lamar

For decades, Friday the 13th has been synonymous with horror films and bad luck. Now it will also be known as the date Kendrick Lamar made his return. It’s been five long years since Pulitzer Prize–winning artist dropped an album (DAMN.) and the wait is finally over. This week K. Dot’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers arrived with 18 songs, including “The Heart Part 5.” Lamar collaborated with the likes of Kodak Black, Ghostface Killah, Summer Walker, Sampha, Thundercat, Baby Keem, as well as production partners such as Sounwave, Pharrell Williams, the Alchemist, Beach Noise, and Boi-1da for his final album on Top Dawg Entertainment.

One of 2022’s most anticipated albums has an official release date. Post Malone’s forthcoming fourth album Twelve Carat Toothache is scheduled to hit retailers on June 3rd. To further build hype for the follow-up to 2018’s super successful Hollywood’s Bleeding the “Rockstar” rapper dropped his latest single, “Cooped Up.” The song featuring Roddy Ricch was performed for the first time on Saturday Night Live.

‘A Trip to Paris’ — Paris Bryant

At 18 years old, Paris Bryant is already looking to carve out his own lane. For the Cinematic Music artist’s first official project, A Trip to Paris he aims to give listeners a glimpse of who he is. “With this project you guys get to experience the Paris from when I first got signed,” he said during his ONE37pm-hosted listening event. The 15-song mixtape, A Trip to Paris features the tracks “Bad Thoughts,” “Dangerous,” “Demon Time” and “Ballin,” which may sound extra familiar. The track was featured in an ESPN campaign and landed on top hip-hop playlists from Spotify, Tidal and Audiomack.
