  • Pros: Water repellent, keeps you warm, has chin guards, has a reflective stripe on the back, has two fleece-lined pockets, is durable
  • Cons: Could run too small for certain body types
  • Warmth level: Fundamental warmth
  • Sizes: XS – 3XL
  • A Promising Review: “I was looking for a trim urban jacket, with some warmth. I am 5’ 10” 135 lbs. I own several light puffers, but most are boxy. I checked all the major medium/high end brands. The price point and quality/fit for this CG jacket was perfect. This jacket fits like a glove. The stretch panels are key.” – Canada Goose Customer

The Lawrence Puffer, which clocks in at a measurement of “fundamental warmth,” meaning that it can withstand temperatures of less than 20 degrees celsius. Featuring a quilted body, the jacket boasts a slim fit complete with a longer back hem that’s topped off with an adjustable down-filled hood. While not a “long” jacket per se, the Lawrence is one of CG’s longer offerings as it sits at the mid-thigh area, which itself accompanied by a longer hem in the back that per the brand is built-in for added protection.

Adding to that protection are the tricot chin guards which provides an added softness and comfort to the neck and chin area of the coat. Additional features like the two exterior fleece-lined pockets (which you can stuff your hands into or use for storage) and ribbed cuffs also serve with giving you a functional jacket that will keep more than warm in cold temps.

  • Pros: Water repellent, wind-resistant, durable, offers multiple colors, is versatile
  • Cons: Could run too big/loose according to some buyers
  • Warmth level: Enduring warmth
  • Sizes: 2XS – 3XL
  • A Promising Review: “This Langford is my 4th Canada Goose jacket. I have Banff, Bomber, PBI Lodge Hoody. Banff doesn’t cover my neck well in a snowy day, Bomber doesn’t cover my hip/thigh, Lodge Hoody is great for normal winter but not for extreme cold & snow storm. Now finally I got the Langford which is long enough to cover my hip/thigh, the non-removable hood design allows the zipper to go all the way up to cover my neck, mouth and nose during snow storm, the fur allows extra wind/snow protection (stylish too), the large lower pockets with Velcro allow me to safely store my two cell phones, wallet, car & home keys, the upper pockets keep my hands warm while walking or waiting.” – Canada Goose Customer

The Langford Parka is a jacket built for prime endurance at it clocks in on Canada Goose’s “enduring level” on the warmth meter. Seeing as though CG jackets made specifically at this level were inspired by the Arctic, it’s safe to say that you’ll be kept warm and cozy at pretty much all cold weather temps. That means, should you happen to reside in a place like Salt Lake City where the temperature can easily reach the negatives and you’re surrounded by mountains, you won’t have to worry about turning into a frost statue. The jacket is made with removable fur ruff, and boasts plenty of helpful features including a 2-way adjustable down-filled hood for extra warmth, four outside pockets (two of which are fleece-lined) and an interior drawcord on the waist line.

  • Cons: Doesn’t keep you warm in extreme temps
  • Warmth level: Lightweight warmth
  • Sizes: XS – 3XL
  • A Promising Review: “It is a great light weight down hoody! I am 5’7 150LB and XS fits quite well, I tried both XS and S, S size was way more loose around mid section plus slight longer arm and overall length. I wish XS has slightly more room in chest area but I don’t layer often so not that much of a problem. Please release this hoody in “Sepia” color.” – Canada Goose Customer

Since its release, customers have raved about the Crofton Jacket, praising its lightweight nature, versatility and comfort. “It protects from the wind very well. At a temperature of about 2 degrees celsius, a light jumper is sufficient in addition,” says one Canada Goose customer, while another adds: “Really happy with my Crofton Hoody, I love the really deep shiny blue colour (Atlantic Navy), which goes well with jeans. I wore it in the Wicklow Mountains near Dublin, Ireland when I drove up there and it was just right for a cool spring day. A couple of feathers have come through but were easy to pull back from the inside without leaving a mark.”

As you can see by the reviews, while not the type of jacket that’s going to keep you bundled up while skiing in negative degree weather, it does get the job done should you want to do an activity along the lines of hiking/hitting the trails when it’s cold.

Sleeves are great for stoping wind, can be used as a layer under the hardshell or similar jacket to prevent rain.” – Canada Goose Reviewer

If you want a jacket that meets right in the middle between late fall and early winter, the HyBridge Lite Tech Hoody is your guy. The name says it all, so this isn’t the type of jacket you can expect to keep you warm should you happen to be caught in the middle of a blizzard, but it will definitely suffice for those cold early mornings when you need to shovel and warm up your car. The durable nature combined with standout features such as CG’s Thermal Mapping technology (which puts performance fabrics on different parts of the jacket to achieve more warmth, breathability, and movement), is what makes the HyBridge a top seller.

Should you need to wear at night, the jacket also has you covered with their double-stripe reflective detailing. Oh, and there are also two mesh-lined exterior pockets and two lower drop-in interior pockets for smaller storage.

I read one review saying they got cold in -47C, and I guess for some they may run colder than me, but I would say it holds up even at that temp. If you have seen the weather in Alberta lately, that has been my testing ground. Shoveling in -36C feeling like -45C with wind, and I’m dying unzipping the jacket for relief. And only a t shirt underneath at -47C and I felt fine. ” – Canada Goose Reviewer

Warm and functional in its crafting and construction, I also appreciate the six exterior and two interior pockets, along with the rib-knit cuffs that help with giving you extra heat. Plus, it offers a structured fit that compliments your entire body.

  • Pros: Lightweight, stylish, waterproof, one of the brand’s more affordable options, protects against strong winds
  • Cons: Sells out quickly in certain sizes
  • Warmth level: Lightweight warmth
  • Sizes: S – XL
  • A Promising Review: “In terms of materials and craftsmanship, it is excellent. The seams are taped-seamed so no water will seep through. Ventilation is excellent, so you will get a lot of air moving and sweat out. Reflective taping is great at night. Super lightweight and can be folded and packed away into itself. The material itself is pretty wrinkle-free. I’ve folded and pack and unpacked several times and it hasn’t really wrinkled. I have shorter arms so i do need to fold the cuff to make it not look too sloppy.” – Canada Goose Reviewer

Cut with the brand’s Tri-Durance fabric which they say protects against downpours and strong winds, the Nanaimo Jacket is a great transitional piece that works well in the spring and fall. It includes helpful features such as mesh venting to help with airflow and breathability, and reflecting paneling on the back of the jacket that allows for people to see you at night. There’s also an adjustable hood should you want to use that in place of an umbrella, and the lightweight nature of the jacket makes it easy to pack should you want to travel with it.

How I picked the best Canada Goose jackets:

When it came to the process of selecting the jackets I used for this list, I made it a point to research and vet all of the jacket options available for men on the Canada Goose website taking into consideration durability, craftsmanship, temperature ratings, longevity, style, and price points. I also made sure to include a wide variety of styles to interest the diverse audience that comes to our website for shopping. As such, I made sure to include a range of jackets for different occasions and temperatures. I also spent hours pouring through customer reviews to see which jackets have been the most highly-rated and in-demand from the brand.

The 18 Best Jacket Brands in 2023: Eddie Bauer, Canada Goose and More

So, you’re looking for a new jacket huh? Allow us to help you out a little bit. While we’re guilty of “random” shopping (where you just pick what you like the best without really paying attention to the brand that much), it’s always good to have a number of brands on hand that are tried, trusted, and true. Jackets are one of those fashion pieces that are needed year-round from those cool and rainy summer days where you’ll need a comfy jacket to go along with your rain boots and sweaters, all the way to those super cold winter days where a winter coat is a necessity for staying warm and toasty. Different brands offer different types of jackets, so we figured now would be a good time to round up the best jacket brands you can shop right now.

Whether it’s Michael Kors and their Packable Quilted Puffer Jacket ($139) or Canada Goose and their Wyndham Parka Black Label Heritage ($1,675), these are some of the best out there.

Things To Consider When Picking a Jacket Brand

Material: Additionally, you should consider the material the brand generally uses for their products. Some materials last longer than others, and believe it or not, some people are actually allergic to certain materials. This is an individual thing that only you can determine.

Weight: While this may not seem a “likely” thing to consider, it is important depending on what you choose to use the jacket for. Do you plan on traveling with said jacket? Is the jacket “packable?” While it can be hard to determine this things fully online, you can take a look at the specs and reviews to get a general idea.

Price point: And like we mentioned earlier. What’s your price range? What are you willing to spend?

10 Retro Fashion Trends That Have Stuck Around

Keeping up with fashion trends can be daunting; what was “in” yesterday may not be in tomorrow, and trends once shunned for being outdated can make startling comebacks (fanny packs—we are looking at you). That’s the beauty, and simultaneously the challenge of navigating fashion.

Fortunately, some pieces have endured style’s many fickle evolutions. 20 and even 30 years ago, runways and red carpets saw many of the same staple pieces that consistently appear today. These ten men show us how the same piece of clothing can be styled to meet the changing times (or to play up the nostalgia).

Brad Pitt

Trend: White t-shirt

The white tee is a non-negotiable wardrobe staple. It can be dressed up (as seen with Brad Pitt’s leather jacket) or worn for casual traveling. Depending on how you style it, the tee can evoke the nostalgia of decades past and still manage to look modern and fresh. This tried-and-true piece never went out of style, and its appeal lies in its simplicity.

Robert Downey Jr.

Trend: Tinted shades

Robert Downey Jr. has spiced up his shades with this purplish hue for over 30 years. The trend is just funky enough to persist through the decades, and RDJ pulls this nostalgic trend off with charisma and flair.

Jay-Z

Trend: Denim jacket

Jay-Z’s all-denim ensemble epitomizes ’90s style. Far from obsolete, the jean jacket continues to rule streetwear; but as Jay-Z’s two looks demonstrate, the styling choices are nearly endless. Go big and baggy to pay homage to the ’90s, or opt for a tighter-fitting jacket (perhaps with a decal or some decorative stitching). This is a piece you can make entirely your own.

Lionel Richie

Trend: Leather jacket

Much like Lionel Richie himself, leather jackets are always au courant. They can look elegant or edgy, and they can transition from warm weather to cold temperatures. Richie’s printed leather jacket elevates his runway attire, while his bulkier leather jacket works well in winter. You can choose the topper that matches your vibe and the occasion at hand.

Harrison Ford

Trend: Blazer and jeans

Harrison Ford has always been effortlessly cool, and his looks–while understated–have a timeless quality. A blazer and jeans ensemble perfectly satisfies the tricky middle ground between dressed up and dressed down. Ford sports this like a pro.

Keanu Reeves

Trend: Combat boots

Keanu’s affinity for combat boots exists today just as strongly as it did in the 90s. No matter how upscale the occasion, Reeves artfully adds combat boots into the mix. Comfortable and durable, the boot completes a rugged, relaxed outfit (and can bring a fancier fit down to earth).

Will Smith

Trend: Turtleneck and jacket

Turtlenecks are far from only practical winter wear. Styled the right way, a turtleneck can make a fit distinctly elegant. Will Smith would know; After 30 years in the industry, he continues to bring fresh looks to the red carpet. He isn’t afraid to play around with prints and textures, and his turtleneck/jacket combo is a perfect example of a man with his finger on the pulse of fashion.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Trend: Camel jacket

Leonardo DiCaprio’s career has spanned three decades, and his film characters have had no shortage of memorable and imitable looks. His style has evolved as he’s grown into one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors, but some staple pieces have remained constant. Camel coats, like those pictured, provide refreshed texture and color to everyday looks.

Trend: Fedora

Shoes and suits may enjoy more of fashion’s limelight, but don’t forget about hats. Jamie Foxx has donned fedoras on red carpets, exemplifying the eye-catching appeal of this statement piece.

Trend: Monochromatic fits

Easy and practical, monochromatic fits look coordinated and thoughtful. All-black is a simple classic, and Antonio Banderas shows just how flexible and timeless this look can be. This style continues to grace runways and red carpets today. If you’re looking for a consistent home-run look, this is it.

10 Kid Fashion Influencers Who Are Setting Trends

Fashion inspiration can come from unexpected places like art, the craft store (at least, we’re assuming this was the inspiration behind Timothée Chalamet’s recent runway look) or nature’s fall leaves. Or perhaps your next wardrobe eureka moment could come from the Instagram page of a second-grader rocking couture brands and a picture-perfect smize.

Meet the “micro-fashion influencer”: an up-and-coming group of Instagram aficionados under 12 years old. These young people and their account managers (usually their moms) have crafted aesthetically pleasing social media pages with tens of thousands of followers. Many have racked up sponsorships with notable clothing companies and are well on their way to internet stardom.

This new and highly entertaining sect of influencers is slowly but surely taking over the platform, and their sartorial choices could certainly inspire your next shopping venture. We looked at ten of our favorite little guys and found one look from each to emulate. Affordable, fashionable and kid-influencer-approved, you’ll want to add all of these looks to your cart.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
1. @princeandthebaker’s Leopard Coat

There’s no better way to be bold than with a bold print. Take it from Prince, one half of the mom and son duo behind @princeandthebaker. Prince knows how to make an impression with a colorful print, usually paired with a felt fedora. This leopard look finds the perfect balance between sleek and daring—and just in time for chilly weather.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
2. @ryansecret’s Distressed Jeans

Every guy needs a classic pair of multi-purpose, no-nonsense jeans, but why stop there? A statement pair of jeans can elevate any look, even if it’s paired with just a plain white tee. Take @ryansecret’s distressed dark jeans. The outfit’s simplicity draws your eye straight to the denim.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
3. @gavinduh’s Work Boots

They’re not just for yard work. Perfect for a rugged, down-to-earth ensemble, tan work boots are as practical as they are fashionable. Gavin adds a denim-on-denim combo (construction worker, but make it fashion? Sign us up). Comfort is king—and you never know when you’re going to need to pick up an odd job around the house.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
4. @engjiandy’s Fleece-Lined Jean Jacket

He may still have baby teeth, but Andy can wear anything from a Mickey Mouse t-shirt to a three-piece suit. And he’s got the right idea when it comes to perfect fall outerwear. Find a comfy sweatshirt and top with a fleece-lined jacket.

5. @maks_model’s Transitional Coat

Do you know that time between late fall and early winter when every jacket seems like the wrong choice? A transitional coat is a necessity, and @maks_model has this look down. Beanie or no beanie (to each his own), this fit screams fall. A light, single-button jacket is the perfect remedy for those days when the weather can’t make up its mind.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
6. @wynnjgoldberg’s Blazer

A go-to blazer is a must-have item. Flexible for dressing up or dressing down, blazers can give your streetwear a polished look or liven up your casual work ensembles. Roll up the sleeves like @wynnjgoldberg and pair with a graphic tee for an easygoing vibe. Whatever your personal style, a blazer gives any fit an added boost.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
7. @_ruffryder_’s Black Jeans

From the pup to the pose, there’s almost too much about this photo from @_ruffryder_ to cover. Black skinny jeans are a classic staple, and if you don’t own some, now is the time to purchase.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
8. @ministylehacker’s Leather Jacket

Leather truly never goes out of style, and @ministylehacker knows it. Mom, Collette Wixom, always has her three sons—Ryker, Grey and Wyatt—dressed to the nines, and this fit is a perfect example. Effortlessly cool and full of swagger, the right leather jacket can completely transform your look and confidence.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
9. @christian_the_bae’s Joggers

Now, this kid knows how to strike a pose. Sometimes you want to leave the house in pajamas (we’ve all been there), so joggers are the perfect option for feeling comfortable without sacrificing fashion. Christian has the right idea, opting for some camo ones with a funky zipper. Find the color and style that suits you.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
10. @nyjahrinato’s Cargo Pants

Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and happy—just like @nyjahrinato. Cargo pants are simple, convenient and straightforward to mix and match to ensure you’ve got looks for days.

One Style Influencer on the 10 Fall Pieces You Need

Born and raised in the Bronx (fun fact: J.Lo’s mom was his kindergarten teacher!), Kevin Benejam honed a myriad of skills. “The Bronx gave me a lot of the street smarts that I use now in business, which gives me an advantage,” he says over the phone. He is continually hustling to build his businesses—a digital marketing agency called Entitled Ventures, a YouTube series called On Trend and a burgeoning Instagram account.

Here, he breaks down the top ten wardrobe essentials every guy’s closet is craving in the fall. You only have to scroll a few seconds through Benejam’s feed to realize he knows a thing or two about fashion. Consider these outfit staples this season.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>
1. Reebok Classics Club C Sneakers

I love these sneakers a lot because I can wear them with anything and they will make the outfit look slicker. I have worn them with a pink suit and everyday basics. I can wear these weekly.

2. A Plaid, Fall Coat

You need this in your closet. Like, there is no other option. Everyone knows that I always preach about how a coat can make your outfit. A plaid jacket can totally do that. Tossing one on top of your fit will elevate anything you’re wearing.

3. A Leather Biker Jacket

A black leather jacket can go with every outfit and every mood. If you want to feel casual, you can wear a hoodie underneath. If you’re going to dress it up, add a white shirt. You will instantly look sleek and chic.

5. A Chunky Scarf

OK, so I wasn’t a fan of covering my neck until one cold season where I was getting sick far too often. So now I wear one every day in the fall and winter seasons. Go big or go home, right? A scarf could be the accessory that lends extra warmth, but it could also add elegance to your fit. Wearing a scarf without a coat is an option too.

6. Cool, Tailored Pants

I have barely worn denim jeans in 2019. That’s because I have been wearing tailored pants or really cool joggers. With the right pants, any ordinary outfit can look like you put a lot of thought into it and feel ultra pulled together. Try it.

8. A Bomber Jacket

A great-fitting and cool bomber jacket can go a long away. You can effortlessly dress it up with a button-up or dress it down with a simple tee. Choose one with exciting details. If it’s a plain-colored bomber, make sure it’s good quality like Obama, above.

9. A stylish hat, beanie or fedora

Nothing sets the tone for an outfit like a hat. Studies show what you wear affects how you feel, and in turn, how you think. Hence the term “thinking cap.” One of my favorite fedoras is created by Nick Fouquet in California, as seen on Jonathan Dos Santos above. Every hat is handmade by the artist and feels genuinely one of a kind.

The Cheap Alternatives to Autumn’s Must-Have Jackets

Not surprisingly, the best-dressed men in the room innately understand the principles of great style. Primary among them is the illusion that they put little to no effort into their appearance. For decades, well-dressed men have mastered this sort of pulled-together minimalism that conceals actual effort. It’s no different from the perfect stubble. Sure, it appears convincingly lazy, but it’s immaculately maintained and crafted with the utmost care.

While the blistering hot months of summer can degrade any well-groomed gent’s appearance, the first chill of fall is only a month or so away. In preparation for dressin’ season, we turn our attention to the ultimate transitional piece: the lightweight jacket. Today we highlight a few must-have options that you’ll want to wear this fall, as well as the look for the low, a less expensive option for those on a budget.

The look for the low, $158

Few items in a man’s wardrobe are more important (or transitional) than a good suede jacket. They typically carry a weighty price tag, but don’t let that scare you away. This is an item worthy of your investment. If you take proper care of this staple, it’s very likely that you’ll still be wearing it in a decade. You’ll want to try on a few to get the fit and cut right. This one from Mr. P is a favorite, but there are some options for the low too.

Kapital Patchwork Bandana-Print Jacket, $670
Shades of Grey

The look for the low, $89

Before you quickly shy away from this traditional Japanese staple, let’s be clear: There’s absolutely no reason to be fearful of the kimono. The silhouette is easy to wear, and it’s a great layering piece that will undeniably elevate whatever you’re wearing underneath. This lightweight iteration won’t be too warm in the early moments of fall. And if you still feel a little wary, just look at it as a slightly smarter denim jacket sans buttons.

The look for the low, $140

Bode, the brainchild of Emily Bode and a recent recipient of the much-acclaimed CFDA Fashion Award, continues its ambitious work turning everyday treasures from the past into coveted style pieces for the present. Bode’s largely one-of-a-kind outerwear is masterful in its details and creativity. Thus, wearing one of her pieces—like this 1930s Turkish quilt turned into lightweight jacket—says that you know a thing or two about good style and, maybe even more important, you’re ambitious about your own.

The look for the low, $110

Prada almost single-handedly brought nylon back into high fashion. Sure, in the sportswear sector, it seemingly never left. But as an elevated fabric that can be worn with proper trousers and premium shirting, the swishy material has never been more in demand. Prada made sure to place activewear at this jacket’s core with drawstrings around the hood and zip closure. Throw this on during a breezy autumn morning or as a top layer worthy of a casual evening out.

The look for the low, $65

The effortless nature of the overshirt is quintessential for fall. With a bit more bulk than your average shirt and a little less structure, it’s meant to be thrown on over your fit as a light layer. Although technically meant to function as a warming piece, a good overshirt can also add color and texture to what you’re already wearing.

The look for the low, $98

You may already have a few denim jackets in traditional washes, but we’re willing to wager that you don’t have that same trucker cut constructed in corduroy. This hefty layer for fall is ’70s-era style made new again. Marant’s iteration is cut relaxed to comfortably top a sweater or a long-sleeve shirt. For a more laid-back look, pair this jacket with your favorite graphic tee.

The look for the low, $60

In the earliest moments of autumn, when outdoor gatherings persist as if summer never left, you need a good transitional jacket to play dress-up in the evenings. A good unstructured blazer will come in handy. Officine Générale nails the look with this clever military-green piece. Distilling the stuffiness of a traditional blazer, this single-breasted gem has shrunken lapels and additional pockets that work in tandem to create the illusion of proper suiting. You can wear this jacket with trousers, jeans or even tailored track pants. It’s a transitional piece that can look as sharp or pared down as you choose, depending largely on your accessories.

Keiser Clark Might Be the Next Big Streetwear Brand

When Keiser Clark was born in 2017, the streetwear brand that is known for their fire Instagram and their ‘Creatures of the Night’ tees, couldn’t have launched at a more opportune time. The lines that once divided menswear and streetwear has begun to dissipate. A fashion industry that had historically shunned streetwear was finally learning to take its creative cues from a sub-genre that had ballooned into a nearly billion-dollar industry in the blink of an eye. They were also hiring its most esteemed talent, poaching peerless luminaries like Virgil Abloh, Yoon Ahn and Demna Gvasalia. Keiser Clark was following a burgeoning class of Los Angeles-based streetwear labels credited with shifting the coastal style zenith.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

’Creatures of the Night’

Though New York City has long been the streetwear capital, an assertive style uprising on the opposite end of the country has not so quietly stripped that title. Brands like Fear of God, Amiri, Rhude, John Elliott, Stampd and 424 call Los Angeles home. Collectively, they represent a fierce roster of what is now, easily expanding beyond local territory into the U.S. and beyond.

Keiser Clark, the budding ready-to-wear label founded by Marc Keiser and Andrew Clark, is of the same ilk. Back in 2016, before the brand officially formed, Keiser and Clark were producing one-off leather jackets for close friends. Keiser, at the time, was studying to be a lawyer and had just passed the bar exam. It was around that time that their leather jackets began to trend socially, as early brand supporters brought notoriety to the designers by posting their exclusive outerwear on Instagram.

The duo quickly got more work. Stylists were calling for exclusive pieces for their buzzy clients to wear. That’s when Keiser and Clark quickly realized their unique entry into the fashion industry.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

Instagram for Streetwear

Keiser Clark is undeniably street. Much of what drives the city’s style lives deep within the brand’s identity and is apparent on their Instagram. Rock and roll ethos courses through the label’s bloodline, amplified by a glorious noir sentiment that acts as a kind of nocturnal soundtrack. Everything is bold by design: aggressive and meant to disrupt. Invariably, this has attracted celebrities to the imposing start-up. They count Michael B. Jordan, Odell Beckham Jr., James Harden, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook and Victor Cruz as fans.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

‘Canis Familiaris. The Dog.’

Earlier this month, during Paris Fashion Week, Keiser Clark presented its Spring/Summer 2020 “Canis Familiaris. The Dog.” collection. Rooted in familial anecdotes fueled by past memories and interpersonal connections, the result, without question, is the brand’s best work yet. A classically romantic aesthetic with hazy modernity was shown with Western-inspired detective sport coats, black lambskin leather button-ups and cargo anoraks in black satin. Keiser Clark is reimagining American utility-wear with a gripping edge.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

Los Angeles is steeped in budding and established talent alike. Keiser Clark is certainly of the former, yet given their knowledge of fabrication, texture and patterns, we need not worry that they’ll be accepted by the latter. And with pieces from their current collection already selling out in the U.S. and Japan, it’s clear that Keiser Clark is deserving of the torch they’ve been passed.

Then and Now: What Were Today’s Fashion Icons Wearing in 1999?

Twenty years ago—as millennium festivities kicked off around the world—the year’s most fashionable icons hit red carpets in quintessential ‘90s garb. Baggy jeans, biker jackets and retro windbreakers (yes, we remember) ruled streetwear, and runway designs reflected those looser silhouettes.

Many of the celebs dominating the fashion scene today have had remarkable careers spanning 20 years or more. Their looks, just like their careers, have evolved with age. But as the saying goes, history repeats itself—and ‘90s fashion has made somewhat of a resurgence (hello, tracksuits and platform shoes). Some looks may never come back—frosted tips, we’ll see you… maybe never—but others have stood the test of time.

Today’s red carpet icons adopted some of the heyday’s trendiest fits while others forged their own unique style path. Take a look at what your favorite celebs wore in 1999 versus what they’re wearing now in 2019.

Jeff Goldblum
SGranitz/WireImage/Getty Images
1999/Goldblum attends the 5th Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards in L.A.
Charley Gallay/Getty Images
2019/Goldblum at the 2019 TCM 10th Annual Classic Film Festival in Hollywood.

While some stars may avoid bold fashion statements later in their careers, Jeff Goldblum’s wardrobe—once generic and understated—has upped the ante. In 1999, he kept his look simple and sophisticated. Loose suits and muted tones defined a typical ‘90s Goldblum; even his eyewear flew under the radar with barely noticeable frames.

2019 Jeff is an entirely new breed. To those who thought Goldblum’s glory days began and ended with the Jurassic Park and Independence Day films, think again. The pop culture icon remains as relevant as ever with an undying fan base (James Corden created a laudatory “thank u, next” parody in his honor called “thank u, jeff”) and red carpet styles you cannot miss. This 2019 look—bursting with animal prints, bold colors and even fur—showcases Jeff’s reborn style: confident, adventurous and suave. Just like the star himself.

David Beckham

Europa Press Entertainment/Europa Press/Getty Images
2019/Beckham at the wedding of Sergio Ramos and Pilar Rubio in Seville, Spain.

David Beckham’s athleticism made him a household name, but his modern fashion sense has made him a red carpet favorite. What else should we expect from the man who married Posh Spice (in 1999, in fact!)? Off the field, Beckham had not developed a signature style in the late ‘90s, but he certainly kept up with at least one trend: leather. Take this head-to-toe leather ensemble: a perfect example of Beckham’s simultaneously refined and rebellious aura.

With his sports career behind him, Beckham’s style choices of today largely reflect the nature of his changing duties: attending formal nights out, business events and even a royal wedding here and there. Posh and Becks continue to draw cameras 20 years later, recently donning a number of elegant looks. And Beckham never fails to “wow” crowds with chic, well-tailored formalwear.

Will Smith

1999/Smith attends the 41st Annual Grammy Awards in L.A.
Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic/Getty Images
2019/Smith at the premiere of Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ in L.A.

Have trouble believing 20 years passed between these two photos? Because… same. Though Will Smith may look like he hasn’t aged a day since he “became the prince of a town called Bel Air,” his style choices certainly have adjusted. Like Beckham, Smith wore leather pieces back in 1999. Though, like this silver jacket shows, he still enlivened his wardrobe with more eccentric pieces.

The press tour for Disney’s Aladdin remake this year gave Smith plentiful red carpet opportunities. Comfortable, semi-casual and sometimes adventurous looks have been Smith’s go-tos. He’s graced recent press appearances in slacks, trench coats, sweaters and printed suits (like the one above). Smith’s style evolution over the past two decades shows a willingness dabble in trends without making a major statement. He’s playing it as cool as ever.

Spike Lee
Gisela Schober/Getty Images
1999/Lee at the Pavarotti and Friends Event in Modena, Italy.
John Rasimus/Barcroft Media/Getty Images
2019/Lee attends the 91st Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood.

Spike Lee, a renowned Hollywood great, scored his first Academy Award this year with his screenplay adaptation of BlacKkKlansman. But Lee made his way onto the film scene way back in 1986 with She’s Gotta Have It, his directorial debut. In those early days, he established a few key staples: a cap, statement specs and an unceasing love for the New York Knicks (as evident in the pic above).

In 2019, Lee keeps with his go-to sneakers and adventurous eye- and head-wear on red carpets. While he has opted for more traditional suits for award shows and events, more often than not, Lee adds bright colors to the mix. In this outfit, Lee’s newly acquired Academy Award perfectly matches his gold sneaks. A colorful suit, shirt and tie create a look that speaks to his one-of-a-kind creative outlook.

Jay-Z
Steve Granitz/WireImage/Getty Images
1999/Jay-Z appears at the 10th Annual Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.
Kevin Mazur/Getty Images
2019/Jay-Z at the Roc Nation Brunch in L.A.

Denim-on-denim may have been a fashion faux pas at one time, but the all-denim ensembles of the ‘90s made mismatched jeans and jackets not just passable but also fashionable. Three years after he released his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, in 1996, the up-and-coming rapper wore a denim jacket matched with baggy pants and chunky black boots.

Today, Jay-Z has ditched ‘90s grunge for more high-fashion wear. While he stills goes for casual sweatshirts and Yankees baseball caps, the rapper can still rock a brighter, trendier fit, like the ensemble above that he wore to Roc Nation’s pre-Grammy brunch. Jay-Z stays true to his core by dressing it down with white sneakers.

Dwayne Johnson

1999/Johnson at the 51st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in L.A.
Taylor Hill/FilmMagic/Getty Images
2019/Johnson attends the Time 100 Gala in New York City.

A year before he started filming scenes for The Mummy Returns in 2000, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson attended the 1999 Emmy Awards as a wrestling superstar. His unbuttoned shirt gives the pro a distinctly relaxed air (and that gold chain necklace screams ‘90s). In the next few years, Johnson’s on-screen career took off, and he began to refine his red carpet style.

The Rock still loves bold patterns on shirts and jackets, but with events like the 2019 Time 100 Gala, he needs a high-fashion look fit for the occasion (he was named to the Time 100 list in 2016 and 2019). This camel-colored suit is dapper yet striking, and the turtleneck underneath harkens back to his famed early ‘90s get-up featuring a chain and fanny pack (the one that inspired many memes).

Ryan Reynolds
Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection/Getty Images
1999/Reynolds attends the premiere of ‘Election’ in L.A.
Mark Sagliocco/FilmMagic/Getty Images
2019/Reynolds at the premiere of ‘Pokemon Detective Pikachu’ in New York City.

Ah, the spiky hair of the ‘90s. Young Ryan Reynolds fell victim to this passing craze in 1999, pictured above at the Election movie premiere. A light goatee further highlights how much the actor’s grooming and styling have changed. A white tee and short sleeve button-up are so casual. Laid-back ‘90s Ryan clearly did not have his finger on the pulse of high-end fashion in the way that he does today.

Gone is the hair gel of the past, and 2019 Ryan Reynolds is now frequently named among the most fashionable male celebrities. He always seems to find that elusive, ideal middle ground between over- and underdressing for the occasion. This fit is a prime example. The denim vest gives this look a casual flare (and throws it back to that ‘90s denim mania) while still keeping up with maintaining that formal feel with a khaki-colored suit.

Rob Lowe

2019/Lowe appears at the 59th Monte Carlo TV Festival in Monte-Carlo, Monaco.

Hair slightly unkempt and coffee cup in hand, 1999 Rob Lowe rolled up to a pre-Oscar party in the way only an already well-established star could. While dressing up for more formal occasions, Lowe kept to tan and black leather jackets and casual shirts whenever he could. The West Wing had its first season that year, and he eventually received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Lowe’s comeback had just begun.

Twenty years later, the star’s look is distinguishably clean-cut, exuding vacation vibes. Youthful and relaxed, his cultivated style choices have kept the 55-year-old actor looking sharp.

1999 Matthew McConaughey sported casual, borderline grunge pieces. An adopter of the leather trend, McConaughey wore a tan leather jacket (above) to the premiere of EdTV, a box office flop starring Woody Harrelson and Ellen DeGeneres that The Atlantic described as a film that “brutally reeks, head to toe, of the ’90s.” McConaughey would soon find his calling as a rom-com star in the 2000s, but he rode out the end of the decade in style.

Present-day McConaughey keeps his style cool and funky. While he’s certainly worn smart, sophisticated suits, he’ll also frequently put on cargo or leather jackets for laid-back fits. This McConaughey look features a vest-and-pants combination that, sans a more formal jacket, keeps with his easygoing vibe. The tinted classes complete the look.

George Clooney’s 1999 ensemble may make you question whether celebrities in the ‘90s ever wore clothes that fit. Oversized suits became all the rage in the ‘80s and ‘90s as offices became more casual. Big, loose suits have made a definite comeback recently and even extended into womenswear. Clooney’s suit would have been perfectly on-trend, and variations of this look have graced runways in the past few years.

If Clooney’s modern looks are any indication, he’s not one to take a significant fashion leap. His outfits stick to simple shades: black, gray and blue. For the Catch 22 U.K. Premiere, he donned a head-to-toe black fit. Clooney knows what works for him and rarely strays from the classics.

A History of the Timeless Harrington Jacket

Baracuta’s classic Harrington jacket is one of those clothing items you’ve seen so many times before and you’re surely familiar with the silhouette, but you never knew the technical name for it. Known in the early days as a “blouson jacket,” Americans, Englishmen, rockers and rebels have all worn the casual jacket for decades, imbuing it with a vibe that’s both prep and punk.

Founded in 1937 in Manchester, England, by brothers John and Isaac Miller, Baracuta has long led the charge toward cool, masculine designs. Their signature G9 Harrington jacket was originally meant to be appropriate for golf, hence the “G.”

One year later, in 1938, a chief of the Clan Fraser of Lovat, a Highland Scottish group, granted the brand access to its memorable red tartan fabric, letting Baracuta line all of its garments with the plaid. This collaboration raised the standards for what a casual jacket could mean at a time when blazers and sports coats were the crux of dressing down.

Then, in the 1960s, actor Ryan O’Neal played a character named Rodney Harrington on television’s prime-time soap opera Peyton Place. He regularly wore the G9 jacket, and the nickname Harrington forever stuck with the style.

The iconic jacket appears throughout vintage pop culture—on Steve McQueen when he graced the cover of Time magazine, on Elvis Presley in many of his films and on James Dean in many on-set photos.

Presidents also adopted the style: John F. Kennedy reportedly wore his whenever he went sailing, and Bill Clinton donned his while golfing. The repetition of men in positions of power wearing the style cemented its longevity in the history of men’s fashion.

Today, Baracuta and its G9 jacket are still going strong. It’s available at Baracuta’s brick-and-mortar locations, on their website and through top retailers. Keep scrolling to see history’s golden style leaders rocking the G9 Harrington jacket from Baracuta.
